The peace was short lived.

The renewed conflict was heralded by the incursion of a being intent on consuming the multiverse – one reality of a time. Hyper humans from our reality teamed with those from several other realities to stop the threat, but not before several key worlds in our portion of the multiverse were destroyed.

In the end, the heroes sealed off our reality with a protective barrier and we absorbed an influx of hyper humans – both refugees from destroyed worlds and hypers isolated from their home realities by the barrier.

Even this degree of success was not without cost. Our earth mourned the loss of heroes slain in combat and of those trapped beyond the barrier. Among those whose loss was most dearly felt was Commander (formerly Tommy) Swift. In the years since he had reappeared, Swift had proven himself to be a true hero and a noble leader. For those who had mourned his loss in the previous generation, his loss in this crisis was all the more painful.

And beyond the Barrier, the reality war raged anew.

Inside the Barrier, bitter veterans of the crisis took it upon themselves to hunt down the “less desirable” doppel transplants. Other doppels adapted more smoothly, joining existing hyper teams or other organizations.

In the end, most hypers eventually just forgot about the barrier. They were content with the lives and adventures a single world could offer. But it was not to last.

We would later learn that a then-mysterious entity released a Cross-World bomb that decimated hundreds of realities – including the home worlds of the two once-great World Empires that had once threatened our home Earth. This ended the war between the empires permanently and forged strange new alliances among the survivors.

At the same time, someone began disrupting the lives of hyper humans inside the barrier. Heroes were kidnapped or slain, particularly those of doppel descent. In the end, it was revealed that both sets of acts were aimed toward one goal – bringing down the barrier and re-introducing our Earth to the multiverse. The energies of these hyper humans were used to power a massive device intended to thin and eventually shatter the barrier. A band of young hyper heroes were the first to discover the plan, but they were too inexperienced to disrupt it. Instead, they called in help.

What followed was known simply as the Barrier War. Our mightiest heroes banded together to prevent the destruction of the barrier. In their eyes, the barrier was the only thing that preventing a second Cross-World bomb from decimating our world. And maybe they were right.

But in the end, the barrier fell anyway. Fortunately, a strike force of hyper humans from across the multiverse made their way into the fortress of the being who released the first Cross-World bomb and put an end to that threat once-and-for-all.

Our world tried to start its healing, but now even former hyper human allies turned on one another – waging wars in some of our reality’s most prominent cities. Heroes had their personal lives shattered and now struggle to re-forge their identities. And the villains appear to be getting the upper hand – in part by turning former heroes to the dark side.

I’ve discovered the truth. I’ve learned why the trials and crises we face seem to be coming with ever increasing frequency and intensity. I’ve traced the threads and learned that there is something deeper going on than we ever imagined. There has been an invasion and we didn’t even know it. Someone or something has been organizing some of the darkest doppelgangers we have ever encountered. And those doppels have been undermining and destabilizing hyper human society for years, even decades.

Now the responsible being is on the direct offensive – and it is painfully clear that they are preparing for the final invasion.

He is coming.
